Because King Atlan says so.
“In this trident resides the power of Atlantis. In the wrong hands, it would bring destruction”.
The initial thought is that the person who takes it would bring destruction instead of peace, but what he means is that in the wrong hands that person would die. The Karathen backs this up.
“You do not belong here. I have guarded the Trident against false kings since the beginning and for a thousand years. I have seen the greatest champions try and failed, but never have I sensed one as unworthy as you.”
“No man has ever freed the Trident from Atlan's grip. Should he deem you unworthy... well, I haven't feasted in eons, and I am famished.”
She plainly says that the greatest champions have failed and then you see a pile of bones of those champions, and the reason why? Because Atlan deemed them unworthy.
Atlan made it literally impossible to get to the Trident by setting up fail-safes like thousands of The Trench, the Maelstrom Vortex, and the prehistoric sea life, should one get past those then they face the Karathen and after all that should they touch the Trident then…they die.
The only one who was capable of wielding the Trident from Atlan was, as he said, The True King.
Only the true King can wield the Trident . But now I am in love with the Star Wars Ahsoka Tano Cosplay Costumes
